What To Expect
Welcome! We are so happy that you’ve decided to start… and we guarantee that a regular Bikram Yoga practice will change your life in the most wonderful ways.
If you’re feeling nervous, scared or even a little intimidated… that’s no problem… many people feel that way initially. Just don’t let it stop you from coming to class. Bikram designed this class for beginners… just know that with a little practice and experience, you’ll feel right at home.
Bikram Yoga is for everyone… Bikram say’s “it’s never too late, you’re never too bad, you’re never too old, and you’re never too sick to start again from scratch and do this yoga”. Come to class, and with the guidance of your teacher just try your best …you will get 100% of the benefits of the yoga.
And don’t think you have to get in shape before coming to your first class… just take your first class… then make a commitment to yourself to come as often as possible… you’ll lose weight if needed, get in great shape, and feel terrific.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day… so that you’re well hydrated before coming to class. Good hydration supports the healthy function of your body’s systems and makes the heat feel comfortable rather than overwhelming.
Arrive 20 minutes early for your first class. This gives us time for registration and orientation. Arriving early ensures a stress free and relaxed beginning to your lifelong Bikram Yoga practice.
Dress in cool comfortable clothes… something you would wear to the beach on a hot summer day… no long-sleeved shirts or pants please.
You will feel challenged by the yoga during class… everyone does! Just work to your edge, but listen to your body and its wisdom. As a beginner, stop when you need… and don’t be afraid to sit down. It’s normal, especially when you start, to feel a little uncomfortable, dizzy, lightheaded, maybe nauseous… it’s only temporary. As your body acclimates to the yoga these sensations will disappear and you will be on your way to a healthier life.
